Keith Whitesides was born in Huntsville, Alabama. In 1989, he graduated from the University of Alabama, B. S., summa cum laude, with an accounting major. He attended Emory University School of Law and graduated in 1993 with distinction and Order of the Coif. He was a member of the Moot Court Society.

After law school, Keith clerked for the Honorable Orinda D. Evans, United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia (1993-1994).
